If you have installed a node with the new Unicontrol 3 hardware,
it has a CAN bus transmission quality indicator on it.

LED A: Transmission quality indicator (LED)
LED B: Transmission quality indicator CANopen (used only for the CANopen Gateway node)

The node (I/O box, I/O unit) indicates the quality of the CAN bus signal transmission
LED is green = good signal transmission
LED is red = signal transmission is faulty
If a CAN bus signal is not correctly transmitted, the LED of each node lights up red 1 second.
This indicates that an error has occurred during the signal transmission. However, the source of the error cannot be determined.

Each of the Can-Bus ends must have a 120 Ohm terminating resistor  .
With old CAN bus cable you might use a 82 Ohm resistor instead of 120 Ohm (only on the oven and powder side of the bus)

If one side of the repeater is completely open and does not have either a connection to a node or terminating resistor, the CAN bus will not run successfully.

X21.1 welder

X22.2 to powder
X22.2 to oven

If there is also a "CANopen" bus in the machine, please check it in the same way.

Measurements

With Power Off

Please check the following on both sides of your repeater:

CAN H – 0VOhm meter > 10 kΩ
CAN L – 0V Ohm meter > 10 kΩ
CAN H – Can LOhm meter 60 Ω +/- 2Ω
0V - Ground Ohm meter < 2 Ω

Check all connections (screws) and end resistors of the can bus if you measure more than 62 Ohms
(If you have old Can bus cables and use 82 Ohm determinating resistors at the oven and powder side you will measure 41 Ohm.)

Tighten all screws on all plugs

  • Tighten all screws on the CAN bus plugs and check if the connectors are fully pushed in (red arrows)
  • Tighten all screws on the Power supply plugs and check if the connectors are fully pushed in (blue arrows)
