Perform SCANDISK


Issue

A corrupt disk structure can be a possible cause of problems that prevent the GCC from starting.
Windows error messages can occur, like

‘DOS EMS Error...’
or
‘The application causes a general protection fault at...’

 

Remedy

Note:  Fixing this problem requires a normal PC keyboard.
Attention: Because the following procedure will require low level access to the PC, this procedure should only be done by an operator with PC experience.

Disk Maintenance for windows 3.11 system

Win 3.11 version: → with symbol 


 

1. Switch off the machine.
2. Plug the keyboard into the PC Key/Keyboard connector.
3. Switch on the machine.
4. As soon as the text: ”Starting MS-DOS...” appears, press the <F5> key.
5. At the MS-DOS Prompt (‘c:\>’) type ‘SCANDISK C: /autofix /nosave /surface’<Enter>.
    This will solve any problems in the disk structure of drive ‘c’.
    If you have the choice to “Fix it” do it.
    But it is not necessary to save a bad file. You could delete it.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen until this program has been finished.
7. After scandisk of drive ‘c’ has been finished (MS-DOS Prompt ‘c:\>’) type
    ‘SCANDISK D: /autofix /nosave /surface’ <Enter>. This will solve any problems in the disk structure of drive ‘d’.
8. Follow the instructions on the screen until this program is finished. It is not necessary to save a bad file.
9. Switch the machine off, then on again to restart the system.
10. You could also make a scandisk of your application flash disk. The best and easiest way is to check the flash disk with a laptop.

Remark: Check the date on your PC. If the date is set back to 1.1.1980 after booting the machine, then the PC BIOS battery is empty. Replace this battery.

 

Disk maintenance for Win 98 system

Used for PC: B&R 745.11108070/15

1. Switch off the machine.
2. Plug the keyboard into the PC Key/Keyboard connector.
3. Switch on the machine.
4. If GCC is ready press <Alt> <F4> -> GCC will close and you will see the Soudronic background.
5. Start ScanDisk



6. Select Type of test : Thorough
    Select “Automatically fix errors”

    Start this ScanDisk for drive:

  • Uc (C:)
  • Data (D:)
  • Win 98 (E:)
  • Backup (F:)

        (3 ½ Floppy (A:) is not present. If this drive is selected you must wait till a fault message will occur. → Press ok)

7. Close Scandisk and reboot machine.
